[Spain (Barcelona) = Joint Press Corps - (Seoul) = Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in departed for home on the afternoon of the 17th (local time) after attending the Group of Seven (G7) Summit and making state visits to Austria and Spain.
President Moon, who left on the 11th, attended the G7 Summit held in Cornwall, United Kingdom, on the 12th and 13th, where he discussed global issues such as COVID-19, climate change, and democracy with other world leaders.
During the G7 Summit, he held separate bilateral meetings with the host country United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, and the European Union (EU) to discuss cooperation measures; however, the first summit meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga did not take place.
After concluding the G7 Summit and leaving the UK, President Moon made a state visit to Austria from the 13th to the 15th, upgrading bilateral relations to a partnership and agreeing to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in new industries such as 5G and hydrogen energy. During the subsequent state visit to Spain from the 15th to the 17th, bilateral relations were elevated to a strategic partnership.
On this trip, President Moon also engaged in 'vaccine diplomacy' by meeting with the global CEO of AstraZeneca and the CEO of CureVac, a German pharmaceutical company developing the world's third mRNA vaccine, urging cooperation on vaccines.
President Moon will return to Korea on the morning of the 18th (Korean time) via a special aircraft.
