Leading the Creation of a Voluntary Blood Donation Culture through Continuous Life-Sharing Activities
25,755 Employees Participated Over the Past 24 Years, with a Total of 9,298 Blood Donation Certificates Issued
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) was honored with the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation on the 14th in recognition of its efforts to promote a culture of blood donation, commemorating the 18th ‘World Blood Donor Day’.
With this, Gwangyang Steelworks has received the ‘World Blood Donor Day’ commendation twice, following the award in 2015.
‘World Blood Donor Day’ is a day to express gratitude to blood donors who practice life-sharing worldwide and to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation. Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and Welfare awards commendations to blood donation contributors and organizations that have contributed to respecting life and improving public health.
Since 1998, Gwangyang Steelworks has independently held the ‘Love Sharing Blood Donation Event’ once a month for 24 years. To date, 25,755 employees of Gwangyang Steelworks have participated in the blood donation events, and a total of 9,298 blood donation certificates have been donated.
With the valuable life-sharing participation of Gwangyang Steelworks employees, in 2012, 1,000 certificates were delivered to the Gwangju Jeonnam Red Cross Blood Center, and in 2015, 3,000 certificates were delivered to the Korea Leukemia Pediatric Cancer Association, among other large-scale donations.
Kim Jong-gi, assistant manager of the Health Promotion Section in charge of the blood donation events, said, “Due to COVID-19, there were fewer opportunities to participate in blood donation events last year and this year, which was regrettable,” and added, “Gwangyang Steelworks will continue to participate in life-sharing activities to spread a culture of sharing in the local community and actively practice the corporate citizenship management philosophy.”
Meanwhile, based on the voluntary participation of its employees, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively striving to realize ‘Community with POSCO,’ a model where companies and society develop together by coexisting and prospering with the local community through various sharing activities that are practically helpful to the community, not only through life-sharing activities but also through talent volunteer groups.
