Incheon Yeonsu-gu Officially Launches Steering Committee for Legal Cultural City Designation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] On the 17th, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced the official launch of the Promotion Committee to lead the designation as a legal cultural city and the cultural city project.

The Promotion Committee consists of 20 members including citizens, artists, researchers, related public officials, and district council members. It will deliberate and decide on the basic directions, policies, and annual cultural city development projects for Yeonsu-gu.

So far, the district has prepared to realize the value of "Donghaeng" (Coexistence), the vision of the cultural city, through the "Diversity Proportional Representation System" and the "Private Co-Chair System," which incorporate diverse voices of urban constituents, aiming to make the Promotion Committee more substantial.

At the first meeting on the 15th, the Promotion Committee elected Kim Changsoo, a visiting professor at Inha University, as the private co-chair, and Lee Seungwon, chairman of the Songdo 2-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee, as the vice-chair.

On that day, the Promotion Committee members gathered their will to make practical contributions and activities for the designation as a legal cultural city and the promotion of the cultural city project, and held a heated discussion on the overall upcoming preliminary cultural city project.

Go Namseok, mayor of Yeonsu-gu, emphasized, "Let us create together a model of public-private governance where citizens lead and administration supports, so that the Promotion Committee for the cultural city can realize regional cultural development and cultural autonomy of Yeonsu-gu with the residents."
