[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Mokwon University student council has been continuing a blood donation campaign for the second year to promote coexistence with local small business owners.

According to the university on the 17th, the Mokwon University General Student Council, the College of Cultural Contents Student Council, and the College of Engineering Student Council are conducting a blood donation campaign for two days starting from the 16th at the student union plaza.

The campaign was planned to commemorate "World Blood Donor Day (June 14)" and started last year. In particular, the recently decreased blood supply adds significance to the campaign. As of the 15th of this month, the Korea Red Cross Blood Management Headquarters reported that the nationwide blood supply is at 4.8 days, which is less than the stable supply level of 5 days.

This is due to the decrease in blood donors caused by the spread of COVID-19, and the campaign is meaningful in that local university students are leading efforts to alleviate the blood shortage. During the campaign period, the Mokwon University General Student Council and others operate two blood donation buses with the support of the Korea Red Cross Blood Center.

Additionally, as a feature of this campaign, a portion of the student council budget supported by the university is used to provide blood donors with vouchers worth 5,000 KRW, which can be used at stores near the university, thereby promoting coexistence between the university and the local community.

The campaign organizers are also conducting infectious disease prevention activities such as social distancing, wearing masks, temperature checks, and hand sanitization, considering the safety of blood donors and others.

Jo Seung-hyung, president of the General Student Council (4th year, Department of Business Administration), said, "We prepared the campaign with the purpose of helping those in need of blood not to suffer from blood shortages on World Blood Donor Day," adding, "I hope the campaign can be a small help to neighbors struggling due to COVID-19."
