Uijeongbu City to Operate 'Anonymous Reporting System for Public Officials' Improprieties' Starting June

Improving Reporting Convenience and Accessibility to Address Identity Exposure Concerns in Existing Systems

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province will operate the 'Public Official Misconduct Anonymous Reporting System' starting this month.

According to the city on the 17th, the 'Public Official Misconduct Anonymous Reporting System' is linked to a reporting system operated by an independent external professional organization, ensuring the anonymity of reporters and enhancing convenience and accessibility of reporting, thereby addressing concerns about identity exposure in the existing system.

Additionally, reports can be made without separate membership registration or login procedures, and the reporter's IP address is deleted and cannot be traced, thoroughly guaranteeing the reporter's anonymity.

Reports can be made regarding public officials' acceptance of money or entertainment, solicitation or requests, embezzlement of public funds and improper budget execution, involvement in vested interests, and abuse of power. Anyone, including citizens or public officials, can report through the city website (Citizen Participation - Reporting Center - Public Official Misconduct Anonymous Reporting Center).

Received reports are immediately notified and processed anonymously by the city's Audit Officer, and investigations and measures are conducted under strict confidentiality regarding the report contents.

Kim Hong-il, the Audit Officer, stated, "With the introduction of the anonymous reporting system, we will discover and improve problems such as internal corruption and misconduct at an early stage and prepare various measures to foster a clean public service culture."
