As Part of Daegu City's Personal Mobility Industry Development Initiative
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Mesh Korea (CEO Yoo Jung-beom), operator of 'Boorung', announced on the 17th that it will deploy battery-swappable E-bikes (electric bikes) for last-mile delivery to foster personal mobility in the Daegu region.
On the 10th, Mesh Korea signed a business agreement with 10 organizations, including Daegu Machinery Parts Research Institute, Hyundai Kefico, and E3 Mobility, to promote personal mobility in Daegu. According to the agreement, 100 battery-swappable electric bikes will be pilot-operated for three months starting in October in Boorung's last-mile delivery service provided in the Daegu area.
The electric bikes to be deployed are products developed by the domestic startup E3 Mobility and are equipped with Hyundai Kefico's latest drive system. Mesh Korea plans to place easily replaceable battery packs and battery chargers together at Boorung Stations, the last-mile delivery hubs. Currently, in Daegu, about 1,000 Boorung riders perform last-mile delivery services at 19 Boorung Stations.
Previously, Mesh Korea received collaboration requests from major domestic manufacturers recently gaining attention, such as KST Electric, Sebo Mobility, and Semisysco, and has been operating ultra-compact electric vehicles for last-mile delivery mainly in the Gangnam area of Seoul. Mesh Korea plans to actively participate in the spread of eco-friendly mobility in the logistics industry going forward.
Yoo Jung-beom, CEO of Mesh Korea, said, "Through sufficient prior verification, we will utilize electric bikes as a means to create synergy with existing two- and four-wheeled vehicle deliveries," adding, "As the global movement to spread eco-friendly mobility is actively underway, we plan to take the lead in providing eco-friendly services as a main player in the domestic distribution and logistics industry."
