President Moon Holds Summit with Spanish Prime Minister... Elevating Bilateral Strategic Partnership

Economic Cooperation through Trade and Investment Promotion, Joint Entry into Third Countries, and Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula via Diplomacy and Dialogue

[Spain (Madrid) = Joint Press Corps] President Moon Jae-in, who is on a state visit to Spain, held a summit with Prime Minister Pedro S?nchez on the 16th (local time) and agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a "strategic partnership."


At the summit held at the Prime Minister's Office in Madrid that day, the "Joint Statement on the Korea-Spain Strategic Partnership" was adopted.


The two leaders stated, "We will elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership and enhance cooperation in political and diplomatic collaboration, multilateral cooperation on the international stage, world peace and security, economic cooperation, science and technological innovation, culture and education, sports, human exchange, and tourism cooperation."

First, the bilateral relationship will be elevated to a strategic partnership, and political and diplomatic cooperation will be strengthened across various fields including security, environment, economy, innovation, and culture. They agreed to promote joint efforts to uphold inclusive multilateralism, including defending multilateralism, responding to health crises and climate change, and rejecting protectionism.


Spain's support for the Korean Peninsula peace process was reaffirmed. The two sides also expanded mutual understanding on the importance of inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation.


They agreed to expand the recovery of trade and investment between the two countries and joint ventures in third countries. Additionally, they will promote exchanges in science and industrial technology cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, 5G, smart cities, and the Internet of Things.


Furthermore, they agreed to enhance accessibility to each other's languages and cultures and to encourage mutual visits to foster understanding and interest among the peoples of both countries.
