Visit to NHN Co., Ltd. Headquarters in Pangyo for Successful Cloud Data Center Establishment
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] On the 16th, Heo Seok, mayor of Suncheon, announced that “Suncheon City will create a future new industry ecosystem driven by attracting the NHN cloud data center” during his visit to the NHN Co., Ltd. headquarters located in Pangyo Techno Valley the day before.
The mayor’s visit was arranged to discuss plans for creating a 4th industrial ecosystem following the investment agreement worth 300 billion KRW signed on March 31 by NHN Enterprise Co., Ltd. to establish a public cloud data center in Suncheon.
At the meeting, NHN stated that by August they will carry out an informatization strategic plan centered on 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam, and subsequently proceed with the project in line with the performance results and government directions.
They also conveyed plans to expand the project while considering collaboration with other metropolitan local governments, and unlike the data centers in Gimhae or Pangyo, they will actively cooperate with Suncheon City to establish Korea’s first public cloud data center.
The cloud data center NHN is building in Suncheon will collect, store, and analyze diverse data related to Jeonnam’s distinctive manufacturing, agriculture and livestock, smart farms, renewable energy, and more, serving as a big data hub for companies and public institutions leading the 4th industry.
In particular, having been designated by the government as a public data center, it will proactively respond to the relocation of information systems from Jeollanam-do, 22 cities and counties, and public institutions.
Kim Dong-hoon, CEO of NHN Enterprise Co., Ltd., said, “Based on NHN’s cloud technology and know-how, we will actively cooperate with Suncheon City and Jeonnam Province to do our best in building a competitive public cloud data center,” adding, “We will strive to accelerate the adoption and transition of cloud technology mainly in the public sector.”
Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “Securing data means securing core growth resources for the future,” and added, “Suncheon City has gained a great driving force to lead future industries by attracting the NHN cloud data center, which will be a significant opportunity for the overall industrial structure reform.”
He continued, “Through active communication and cooperation with NHN Enterprise Co., Ltd., we will foster future new industries leading the 4th industrial revolution based on data, the core of the digital new deal.”
