UK Government Discusses Secondary Battery Production with Samsung, LG, and Others

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Major foreign media reported that the UK government is in discussions with domestic companies such as Samsung and LG to produce secondary batteries.

According to major foreign media on the 16th, the UK government is reportedly discussing the establishment of secondary battery production plants with six companies including South Korea's Samsung and LG, the US's Ford, Japan's Nissan, and UK startups Britishvolt and Innovate Auto.

These six companies are said to be negotiating with the UK central and local governments regarding factory sites and financial support measures. Major foreign media added that the UK government is in the early stages of investment negotiations with Samsung and LG, and that the two companies are expected to advance negotiations only if they have deals with major automobile manufacturers.

The UK government plans to ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine vehicles by 2030, and to ban new hybrid vehicles by 2035.
