[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is operating a so-called ‘Jindam Program’ from this month until November this year to enable teenagers to proactively explore their career paths and design their futures.
The name ‘Jindam’ is derived from the abbreviation of ‘Jinro Sangdam’ (career counseling) and also means ‘words from the heart.’
According to the ‘Career Education Survey’ conducted last year by the Seodaemun Career and Job Experience Support Center targeting 1,751 middle school students in the area, 57.5% of students have experienced career counseling, slightly more than half.
The district stated, “Since existing career counseling often takes place once based on academic grades, we planned this program to provide practical help to teenagers.”
The program targets 3rd-year middle school and 1st-year high school students in the area and consists of career counseling, career learning coaching, mentoring, and parent counseling.
‘Jindam’ is characterized by being a ‘1:1 customized’ program tailored to each teenager’s individual situation and wishes.
‘Youth Career Counseling Experts’ conduct career and psychological tests and interpretations and provide counseling based on personal values and goals.
‘Learning Coaching Experts’ help teenagers set career goals and create study plans based on those goals.
‘University Student and Professional Mentors’ provide information about university majors and occupations.
When there is conflict between parents and children due to career issues, ‘Parent Counseling’ is also provided.
The ‘Jindam Program’ is held at four locations: ▲Seodaemun Career and Job Experience Support Center (Hong Eun 1-dong) ▲Seodaemun Youth Center (Yeonhui-dong) ▲Seodaemun-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center (Bukgajwa 2-dong) ▲Youth Agit Shwimpyu (Sinchon-dong).
Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, “Through this career and academic counseling, teenagers will receive practical help in designing their dreams.”
Applications can be made online via QR code, and for more details, please refer to the Seodaemun Career and Job Experience Support Center website or contact by phone.
