[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Dongwon F&B is accelerating its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
On the 16th, Dongwon F&B announced that it will lead sustainable corporate activities by establishing an ESG Committee to fulfill environmental and social responsibilities and enhance management transparency.
The ESG Committee, composed of four members including CEO Jaeok Kim, three internal directors, and one outside director Yongjin Kim, will form dedicated task forces for each issue to identify strategic tasks across ESG areas such as environment, safety management, and ethical management, and continuously monitor implementation details and performance.
The ESG Committee selected three core goals for this year: ▲achieving 100 billion KRW in sales of eco-friendly products ▲reducing annual plastic usage by 15% ▲establishing industrial safety and health management.
To achieve 100 billion KRW in eco-friendly product sales, Dongwon F&B is launching various new products and marketing activities. Recently, Dongwon F&B released the label-free bottled water ‘Dongwon Saemmul Label-Free’ and the label-free tea beverage ‘EcoBori,’ and is expanding the frozen water cooling material ‘Dongwon Saemmul Fresh.’
Within the year, products produced sustainably such as MSC-certified tuna cans and animal welfare antibiotic-free certified milk will be launched. The company also plans to conduct collaborative marketing with various industries on the theme of eco-friendliness and customer-participatory eco-friendly social network service (SNS) marketing.
Additionally, to achieve the goal of reducing annual plastic usage by 15%, Dongwon F&B will continuously reduce plastic packaging used in products, cutting 2,680 tons of plastic by next year. This is expected to have an environmental protection effect equivalent to planting 28.58 million pine trees. To this end, Dongwon F&B launched the ‘Yangban Gim Eco Package’ which eliminated plastic trays and is continuously lightening PET bottles for bottled water products. The company plans to expand the ‘No Plastic’ gift sets that completely eliminate plastic packaging.
To establish industrial safety and health management, Dongwon F&B plans to minimize the risk of industrial accidents by implementing ISO45001 certification across all business sites and establishing an industrial safety system. Regular factory inspections through the safety and health committee, win-win agreements with partners, and illegal case monitoring systems will also continue.
Dongwon F&B has set ‘A Better Future with Dongwon’ as its ESG management slogan. This reflects the intention to inherit and further strengthen the ESG management values already embedded in Dongwon Group’s founding philosophy of ‘realizing social justice through sincere corporate activities’ and its vision of being a ‘socially necessary company creating new value.’
The campaign logo features an upside-down globe, symbolizing Dongwon Group’s management philosophy while emphasizing activities for the global environment. The ‘upside-down map’ is a symbol representing the philosophy of Honorary Chairman Jaecheol Kim of Dongwon Group, embodying a shift in perspective that ‘when the map is turned upside down, the Korean Peninsula is a stage of possibilities extending toward the sea.’
A Dongwon F&B official said, “ESG management has become a necessity, not a choice, for corporate survival and social sustainability worldwide. As a socially necessary company creating new value, we will strive for ESG management activities for a better future than today.”
