Next Year's Galaxy S22 Release to Strengthen 'Sharp Differentiation' Among Siblings

Next Year's Galaxy S22 Release to Strengthen 'Sharp Differentiation' Among Siblings

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are rumors that only the Ultra model, the highest specification among the flagship smartphones in the ‘Galaxy S22’ series expected to be released by Samsung Electronics early next year, will feature a glass material on the back.

According to IT specialized media Android Authority and others on the 15th (local time), it is expected that only the back of the ‘Galaxy S22 Ultra’ among the Galaxy S22 series will use glass material. On the other hand, the ‘Galaxy S22’ and ‘Galaxy S22 Plus (+)’ are expected to have rear covers made of plastic material with improved finishing using Samsung Electronics’ ‘new processing technology.’ Currently, the back of the Galaxy S21 uses polycarbonate material, while the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra models use sport glass material.

Android Authority mentioned that the Galaxy S21 lowered its price compared to its predecessor and explained, “It is interpreted as a strategy to maintain price competitiveness by offsetting the high cost caused by using expensive application processor (AP) chipsets with the use of plastic materials with improved finishing.”

The ‘tier differentiation’ within the series is also expected to apply to the display. Previously, US IT media PhoneArena reported, citing a tweet from IT Twitter user Mauri QHD, that only the Galaxy S22 Ultra model will be equipped with Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) technology for the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. LTPO combines the advantages of existing Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) and oxide TFT, automatically adjusting the display refresh rate according to the consumer’s usage environment to improve the display’s power efficiency.

However, the AP chipset is expected to be the same product installed in all models of the Galaxy S22 series. Mauri QHD predicted on the 5th that the ‘Exynos 2200’ and ‘Snapdragon 895’ will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4-nanometer process.

Meanwhile, there are also forecasts that the displays of the Galaxy S22 series will be slightly smaller than their predecessors. The Galaxy S22 is expected to be 6.06 inches, the Galaxy S22+ model 6.55 inches, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra model 6.81 inches. This is slightly smaller compared to the previous Galaxy S21 series’ 6.2 inches, 6.7 inches, and 6.9 inches, respectively.
