Lee Jae-myung "Disappointed by Lee Jun-seok's Postponement of Operating Room CCTV Installation... Betraying the People's Wish"

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed disappointment over Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, postponing the installation of CCTV in operating rooms and urged cooperative governance that meets the public's expectations.

On the 15th, Lee posted on Facebook titled "Disappointment in Leader Lee Jun-seok's Postponement of Operating Room CCTV," stating, "In response to our party's representative Yoon Ho-jung's inquiry about operating room CCTV, Lee Jun-seok of the People Power Party expressed a reserved stance, saying that medical practices might become passive and that 'further social discussion is necessary.' This is a disappointing answer that is far from the expectations of the public who hoped for 'politics that gets things done' with Lee Jun-seok's election," he criticized.

He continued, "This is a bill overwhelmingly agreed upon by more than 80% of the public and has undergone a long process of debate," adding, "There is no difference from the existing image of the People Power Party, which has represented elite vested interests."

In particular, he emphasized, "Although some in the medical community say 'let's leave it to the autonomy of medical staff,' medical practices in operating rooms are matters where a single accident can determine the life of a citizen," and "The public demands the state's role to prevent that one accident."

Furthermore, he said, "It is difficult to understand the claim that installing CCTV in operating rooms will make medical practices passive," advising, "The public's perspective is well captured by an internet community post that asks, 'Does having a black box in a car make you drive passively?'"

He added, "Just as CCTV in daycare centers does not cause passive childcare, operating room CCTV will rather increase public trust in the majority of medical staff who act conscientiously and do not commit illegal acts, and protect citizens from a small number of illegal medical practices or sexual harassment."

Lee stated, "Any policy inevitably faces resistance and backlash from those accustomed to existing systems," but argued, "If we give up because of strong opposition, nothing will change, and the public will continue to suffer from ineffective politics."

He concluded, "I hope that through conservative innovation, our politics will see a 'competition to do well,' meeting the expectations of the public."
