Area of 16,026 ha in the jurisdiction, labor and cost savings 'Well Received'
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) is receiving positive responses by supporting seedling box treatments that can prevent rice diseases and pests in advance.
According to the county on the 15th, the seedling box treatment is a pesticide that, when used once on seedling trays before rice planting, can prevent leaf blast, rice planthoppers, rice water weevils, and other pests that occur in the early stages of the main field, playing an important role in early disease and pest control.
Additionally, since the pesticide effect lasts up to about 90 days, it has been found to reduce the number of pest control treatments by 1 to 2 times after rice planting, resulting in significant labor and cost savings.
The county invested about 906 million KRW this year and completed the supply of the pesticide last month to the entire area of 16,026 hectares, excluding the area for eco-friendly rice cultivation and fields where other crops are grown.
A county official stated, “We expect that the seedling box treatment will help alleviate the labor and management cost burdens of farmers who are struggling due to aging and feminization. We will continue to conduct regular monitoring and field guidance activities to respond to sudden disease and pest damage caused by climate change such as global warming.”
