[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 15th that it will intensively carry out sanitation pest control targeting flies, mosquitoes, and other vectors of infectious diseases along with COVID-19 disinfection during the summer season.
A total of 49 personnel, including the public health center and pest control teams from nine towns and townships in the jurisdiction, are conducting bi-monthly mass disinfection and more than three times weekly spot disinfection targeting vulnerable areas using vehicle-mounted and portable pest control equipment.
Currently, 182 eco-friendly insect traps utilizing LED lamp wavelengths to repel pests such as mayflies and mosquitoes have been installed in high foot traffic areas including Bulmu Park in Muan-eup, Namak Waterfront Park, Central Park, Kim Dae-jung Park, Namchang Stream, Oryong Scenic Waterway, and Sunken Park.
The county plans to install an additional 32 insect traps in the second half of this year to create a pleasant environment and alleviate residents' discomfort caused by insects.
A county official urged, “To prevent COVID-19, please wipe surfaces frequently touched by people such as handles, railings, and doorknobs with eco-friendly disinfectant water installed in each town and township, and ensure sufficient ventilation in public places and homes.”
Governor Kim San stated, “Since complete eradication of sanitary pests is difficult through disinfection alone, households should also take pest control measures such as using mosquito nets and repellents, maintaining window screens, removing stagnant water, and properly disposing of household waste. The county will do its best to prevent infectious disease outbreaks and resolve inconveniences so that residents can have a safe and healthy summer.”
