[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] System semiconductor developer I&C Technology announced on the 15th that it has been selected as the company to carry out the national project "Development of Connectivity SoC for Edge Devices Based on KCMVP Certification" for national public and industrial network applications.
A company official stated, "This is part of the 'Next-Generation Intelligent Semiconductor Technology Development Project, System Semiconductor Commercialization Design Field,'" and introduced, "We will develop a one-chip SoC that integrates security, communication, and sensor interfaces with government funding of 3.1 billion KRW."
He added, "The goal is to apply it to smart gas meters and smart heat meters and then demonstrate it in a testbed," and "Public institutions and key national industrial facilities mandatorily require the installation of cryptographic modules based on KCMVP certification for information protection."
As the Internet of Things (IoT) market rapidly grows and the AMI business expands, low power consumption and reliable communication technology are becoming increasingly important. We plan to develop an SoC combining security, communication, and sensor interfaces to expand the smart gas meter distribution project and the smart heat supply network project.
The project’s lead organization is I&C Technology, and participating organizations collaborating include Ranix, which possesses the highest level of domestic cryptographic and security technology based on KCMVP certification; Daehan Gas Equipment, one of the top three major gas meter manufacturers in Korea; and HSCMT, the number one flow meter company in Korea. Samchully Gas and KT, as demand companies, will establish testbeds for demonstration.
An I&C Technology official explained, "In the NB-IoT chipset market, which is mostly dominated by foreign chipsets, we will commercialize an NB-IoT chipset developed with domestic technology through this national project," and added, "We plan to expand our business by applying it to various applications in the growing Internet of Things market."
