June Future Education Innovation Center Branch (3rd Branch) and Sangildong Community Center Branch (4th Branch) Opened, Operating a Total of 4 Locations... Enjoy 'Booktamin' (Vitamin for the Mind through Reading) Anytime without Being Restricted by Library Hours
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, is using the unmanned book lending service at the third branch, which opened on the 8th.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) opened the Smart Library Mirae Education Innovation Center Branch (3rd branch) and Sangil-dong Community Center Branch (4th branch) on the 8th and 11th, respectively, both of which can be used 24/7.
The district operates unmanned smart libraries so that residents can enjoy "Booktamin" (the vitamin for the mind gained through reading) without being restricted by library operating hours.
The Sangil-dong Station Branch (1st branch) and Cheonho Station Branch (2nd branch), which opened in April, have received great responses from residents, with over 2,300 users in May alone. The 3rd and 4th branches, opened in June, are also expected to attract more residents as they are located in areas with high foot traffic.
The smart libraries provide three services: ▲ unmanned book lending ▲ book reservation lending ▲ unmanned book return.
About 200 new and bestselling books are stocked, and books can be borrowed and returned at any time.
Additionally, books borrowed from Gangdong-gu public libraries can be returned at the nearest smart library.
Books from Gangdong-gu public libraries that are not stocked can also be reserved on the website and picked up at the smart library without visiting the library in person.
Residents who wish to use the service must obtain a Gangdong-gu public library membership card (including mobile membership cards).
Each person can borrow one non-reserved book (via the book vending machine) and one reserved book, with a loan period of 14 days.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “In addition to the ‘Smart Library,’ we are doing our best to create an environment where residents can read anytime and anywhere through services such as ‘Hope Book Direct Lending from Local Bookstores’ and ‘Dadokdadok Book Cafe Library.’ We hope that more residents can receive healing for their minds through reading.”
