Korea Gas Corporation Withdraws Plan to Establish Natural Gas Supply Facility in Gasan Industrial Complex, Yangsan City

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 14th that Korea Gas Corporation has decided to withdraw its plan to establish a natural gas supply facility within the Gasan General Industrial Complex in Dong-myeon, a project that has been underway since 2019.

The city continuously requested Gyeongnam Province and Gyeongnam Development Corporation to reconsider the types of industries to be attracted, citing a lack of objective justification for the necessity of installing a gas supply management facility and worsening public opinion due to concerns over facilities that could threaten residents' safety.

Furthermore, as Dong-myeon residents persistently opposed the installation, claiming direct harm, Gas Corporation announced on the 4th that withdrawing the plan was inevitable.

Accordingly, Gas Corporation stated that it plans to promote natural gas supply by expanding and extending the existing Yangsan management site located in Yeorak-ri, Dong-myeon.

A Yangsan City official said, “The city will continue to actively persuade and mediate on civil complaints directly related to residents' lives.”
