[AK Opinion Poll] Next Presidential Candidates Support: Yoon Seok-yeol and Lee Jae-myung Form 'Two-Strong Front' Amid Opposition Candidates' Strength

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] In the next presidential candidate support poll, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung maintained a 'two-strong structure,' while among the other presidential candidates, opposition party candidates showed a marked strength.

According to a public opinion survey conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 12th to 13th, targeting 1,017 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response), the question "Who do you think is most suitable as the next president?" yielded the following results: former Prosecutor General Yoon 33.3%, Governor Lee 28.3%, and former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon 10.0%. Following them were opposition candidates. Independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo received 3.9%, People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo 3.2%, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min 2.7%.


Ruling party candidate and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun recorded 2.1%, down 3.3 percentage points from the previous survey in the fifth week of May (5.4%), failing to maintain the 5% range. Ruling party figure and 'pro-Roh faction' lawmaker Lee Kwang-jae received 1.4%, 1971-born lawmaker Park Yong-jin 1.2%, Jeju Province Governor Won Hee-ryong, who is considering running, 1.1%, and recently declared candidate Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon 0.5%. Other figures accounted for 1.9%, and those who responded none or don't know were 7.5%.


Among Democratic Party supporters, Governor Lee maintained a strong lead with 54.7%, followed by former leader Lee Nak-yeon at 21.7%, former Prosecutor General Yoon at 6.7%, and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun at 3.9%. Former leader Lee Nak-yeon rose by 2.4 percentage points compared to the fifth week of May survey, which is analyzed to be influenced by his moves to check Governor Lee through constitutional amendment cards and calls for postponing the primary.


Among People Power Party supporters, former Prosecutor General Yoon received the highest support at 66.3%, followed by lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo at 7.4%, Governor Lee at 5.3%, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min at 4.0%. Recently emerging opposition candidate Chairperson of the Board of Audit and Inspection Choi Jae-hyung recorded 3.8%.


This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide from the 12th to 13th, with 1,017 respondents and an overall response rate of 10.9%. The survey method was wireless ARS with 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
