[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 14th, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is contributing to increasing fishermen's income by releasing 2 million shrimp larvae this year, following the release of 3 million larvae in 2019, to restore the declining shrimp resources.

The shrimp released this time are on average over 1 cm in size and are the largest among the shrimp species inhabiting the western and southern coasts of Jeollanam-do.

Known as a high-survival, sedentary species that does not move far from the coast after release, it is a highly effective autumn specialty for stocking.

This year, the county started releasing pond smelt eggs at Yongsanje in Imhoe-myeon and has continuously conducted stocking projects for species such as eel and abalone in both freshwater and seawater areas.

Going forward, the county plans to continue stocking projects to restore marine resources and revitalize the local economy by releasing various species such as sea cucumber, blue crab, cockle, and octopus.

An official from the Jindo-gun Fisheries Support Division said, “We plan to create fishing grounds where various species inhabit by continuously releasing seeds of economically valuable high-income species.”
