Eunpyeong-gu Creates Barrier-Free Forest Trail in Bongsan... Enjoy the Hinoki Cypress Forest

Forest Trail Construction Project to be Completed in 2024, Set to Become a Healing Space in Eunpyeong-gu... Plans to Expand Barrier-Free Forest Trails by Linking with Other Eunpyeong Dullegil Routes in the Long Term

Eunpyeong-gu Creates Barrier-Free Forest Trail in Bongsan... Enjoy the Hinoki Cypress Forest Hinoki Cypress Healing Forest

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has created a 24km Eunpyeong Dulle-gil trail centered around Bukhansan Mountain as part of its forest welfare initiative, which is loved not only by residents of Eunpyeong-gu but also by citizens of Seoul.

In particular, the trail on Bongsan (Bongsan Sunrise Trail) features well-developed healing forests such as the hinoki cypress healing forest and the native Cornus officinalis colony. There are many viewpoints where visitors can admire the spectacular views of Joktudoribong and Hyangrobong peaks of Bukhansan, making it an important leisure space for citizens seeking nearby rest after the hardships of COVID-19.

However, since the Eunpyeong Dulle-gil is a forest trail built on mountainous terrain, it has been difficult for people with disabilities, the elderly, and citizens using strollers to use it easily. Therefore, there has been a growing need for measures that allow all citizens, including those with mobility challenges, to enjoy the mountains without burden.

Accordingly, Eunpyeong-gu is currently promoting the ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail Project’ considering the ‘mobility-impaired users of the Dulle-gil.’ The ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ is expected to receive a total external budget of 8.9 billion KRW from Seoul City and others, and the project has been progressing in phases since 2020.

This project is scheduled for completion by 2024, with phases 1 and 2 (2.05km) currently underway as of 2021. Upon completion, a total of 7.7km will be established.

In particular, the ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ will be linked with Eunpyeong-gu’s pride, the ‘Hinoki Cypress Healing Forest,’ and hinoki cypress forests will be created at key points along the deck road, making it the only barrier-free hinoki cypress forest trail in Korea.

Additionally, Eunpyeong-gu plans to continuously expand barrier-free forest trails in the long term by connecting with other courses such as the Aengbongsan course of the Eunpyeong Dulle-gil.

Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “By creating the long-awaited ‘Bongsan Barrier-Free Forest Trail’ in Eunpyeong-gu, which boasts abundant forests, we will contribute to making Eunpyeong a green city where people and nature coexist and residents are happy.”
