[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Hwang Kyo-ahn, former leader of the United Future Party (predecessor of the People Power Party), hinted at running for president on the 13th, saying, "I will do everything for a regime change."

At a press conference held on the 13th at the Daegu Station Center in Jung-gu, Daegu, Hwang said this in response to a reporter's question about his intention to run for the presidency.

Regarding the presidential primary, he said, "It is desirable for everyone to step up and work for regime change within this year. The more, the better," adding, "Those outside the party who share the same will should come in."

He also said, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, Representative Ahn Cheol-soo, former Representative Hong Joon-pyo, and former Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Kim Dong-yeon should also come together to unite their strength and judge the current government's destruction of people's livelihoods and economy."

He continued, "I also feel a part of the role and responsibility and will do it. I cannot just sit still like this," emphasizing, "I will fulfill my responsibility for regime change."

Regarding the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, he said, "Now we must move beyond impeachment and look to the future. How long must we continue to divide public opinion over the impeachment issue from several years ago?" adding, "This is not something to judge now; history will judge it in the long term."

On the topic of generational change, which became a hot issue with the election of Lee Jun-seok as the new leader of the People Power Party, he said, "I take it to mean that people stuck in old-fashioned politics must be changed," adding, "Generational change is important, but generational integration is necessary. Generations need to integrate well and leverage their strengths."

He said he visited the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Gyeongju before visiting Daegu, stating, "Wolseong Unit 1 was the second to be shut down in our country. I checked whether there are any side effects from that and listened to the opinions of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, experts, and residents regarding the overall Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant."
