[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eun-byeol] As the domestic COVID-19 outbreak continues, new confirmed cases were reported across the country on the 13th.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and other local governments, a total of 338 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day. This is 55 fewer than the 393 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, likely due to a decrease in testing over the weekend and holidays, resulting in fewer cases in the interim count.
By region, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases was 242 (71.6%) in the metropolitan area and 96 (28.4%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, there were 116 cases in Gyeonggi, 115 in Seoul, 19 in Daegu, 17 in Busan, 14 in Chungbuk, 11 in Incheon, 10 each in Gyeongnam and Gangwon, 8 in Jeju, 7 in Daejeon, 4 in Gyeongbuk, 2 each in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Chungnam, and 1 in Jeonbuk. Among the 17 cities and provinces, no confirmed cases have yet been reported in Ulsan and Sejong.
Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0:00 on the 14th is expected to increase to around 400. On the previous day, 59 additional cases were reported after 6 p.m., bringing the final total to 452.
Based on the announcement date, the number of new confirmed cases reported daily over the past week from the 7th to the current day were 485 → 454 → 602 → 610 → 556 → 565 → 452, averaging about 532 cases per day.
The daily average of locally transmitted cases, a key indicator for adjusting the 'social distancing' level, stands at 507, which remains within the Level 2.5 range (nationwide 400?500 or more cases).
Regarding major cluster infection cases, since the 9th, 12 workers have tested positive in the third case related to a workplace in Songpa-gu, Seoul. At an English academy in Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, after the first confirmed case on the 10th, 8 additional cases were reported, bringing the total infections to 9. At a restaurant in Buk-gu, Busan, a total of 10 workers, customers, and family members have tested positive since the 2nd.
