Kyodo News reported that the conversation between the U.S. and Japanese leaders took place at the venue of the G7 summit in the United Kingdom.
When Prime Minister Suga visited the U.S. in April and held talks with President Biden, the joint statement included that "President Biden supports Prime Minister Suga's efforts to hold a safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer."
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also met with Prime Minister Suga the day before and expressed his support for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, welcoming Japan's efforts to realize a safe event.
At the G7 summit the previous day, Prime Minister Suga expressed strong determination to host the Games by requesting the dispatch of athletes to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
