Korea-Australia Summit at G7... Australian Prime Minister "Economy Stronger Than Before COVID"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 12th (local time), President Moon Jae-in, during a summit meeting with Australian Prime Minister Morrison held in Cornwall, UK, stated, "I am very pleased that Korea, together with its eternal ally Australia, has been invited to the G7 summit. Our two countries will work together for the success of the G7 summit aimed at creating an inclusive international order."
President Moon said, "In the midst of rapid changes in the international order due to COVID-19, the climate crisis, and the transition to a low-carbon and digital economy, cooperation among allied countries that share values has become even more important. I hope that our two countries will jointly contribute to the stability of global supply chains and strengthen cooperation in low-carbon technologies and hydrogen."
President Moon added, "Through today's meeting with the Prime Minister, I hope to further develop the friendly cooperative relationship between our two countries and join hands in national infrastructure, defense, and defense industry sectors to contribute together to peace in the region."
Prime Minister Morrison of Australia said, "Korea and Australia have responded very successfully to COVID-19. In that regard, I highly appreciate your leadership, Mr. President," and added, "Korea and Australia have not only responded to COVID-19 but are also achieving significant economic results."
Prime Minister Morrison further stated, "Therefore, I believe the economy has become even stronger than before COVID-19. Compared to other countries, we have progressed quickly through the COVID-19 situation. I hope to continue our cooperation going forward."
The Blue House explained, "The two leaders evaluated this year as a meaningful year marking the 60th anniversary of Korea-Australia diplomatic relations and agreed to lay the foundation to elevate bilateral relations to a new level," and "they assessed that the two countries have maintained a mutually beneficial trade relationship based on complementary trade structures and agreed to broaden the horizon of economic cooperation into areas such as low-carbon technologies."
The Blue House stated, "In particular, it was evaluated that mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries is possible in low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen production and utilization, and through active exchanges among governments, companies, and research institutes, they agreed to discover concrete cooperative projects and also cooperate in the development of critical minerals."
Furthermore, the Blue House said, "President Moon expressed gratitude for the Australian government's firm and continuous support for our government's efforts toward peace on the Korean Peninsula and requested unwavering support and cooperation for peace on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "Prime Minister Morrison evaluated President Moon's efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula and said he would actively support our government's efforts going forward."
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong, National Security Office Director Suh Hoon, Policy Chief Lee Ho-seung, and Spokesperson Park Kyung-mi accompanied President Moon and Prime Minister Morrison at the Korea-Australia summit meeting.
