[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 10th, the People Power Party decided to request an investigation from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission following the Board of Audit and Inspection's stance that it is unable to conduct a full-scale investigation into the real estate holdings of its members.

Kang Min-guk, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a briefing that "the People Power Party has decided to request the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission to conduct a full-scale investigation into the real estate status of its 102 members."

Previously, the People Power Party had requested the Board of Audit and Inspection to conduct the investigation. However, the Board of Audit and Inspection refused, citing Article 24, Paragraph 3 of the Board of Audit and Inspection Act, which defines the scope of its duties and states that "public officials belonging to the National Assembly, the courts, and the Constitutional Court are excluded." Therefore, even if a member of the National Assembly consents to an investigation by the Board of Audit and Inspection, the Board must perform its duties within the authority and scope defined by the Constitution and laws.

Spokesperson Kang emphasized, "The People Power Party has already strongly expressed its intention for a full-scale investigation, as well as investigations by the Board of Audit and Inspection, special prosecutors, and a state audit, regarding the real estate speculation by its members since March," adding, "The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission must guarantee fairness in the full-scale investigation."

They stated, "Although it is said that Chairperson Jeon Hyun-hee was suspended from duty during the investigation, considering that the Commission has issued biased legal interpretations favoring pro-government figures such as Cho Kuk, Choo Mi-ae, Park Beom-gye, and Lee Yong-gu, and even the Democratic Party leader has criticized the Commission for a 'poor investigation,' can the opposition party and the public truly trust the Commission's investigation?" They urged, "To escape criticism that the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, which is operated with taxpayers' money, has become a 'regime's commission,' it must respond to the public's anger over real estate issues with fairness."
