This Summer, 'Mogadishu' and 'Injil' Released Back-to-Back
"It Will Be a Stepping Stone for Mid-Sized Film Releases"
Production company Ouyunaegang is injecting vitality into theaters struggling due to COVID-19. Following director Ryu Seung-wan's 'Mogadishu,' they are consecutively releasing director Pil Gam-seong's 'Hostage' on the big screen.
Distributor NEW announced on the 10th that 'Hostage' will be released this summer. One early morning, actor Hwang Jung-min is kidnapped without evidence or witnesses and embarks on a life-risking escape in this reality action thriller. Actor Hwang Jung-min plays a role bearing his own name. A representative said, "It is expected to be released in early to mid-August."
Ouyunaegang will also release 'Mogadishu,' distributed by Lotte Entertainment this summer. The drama depicts the survival escape of people trapped in the capital Mogadishu during the 1991 Somali civil war. Directed by Ryu Seung-wan, known for 'The Unjust (2010),' 'Berlin (2012),' and 'Veteran (2015),' the film attracted attention even before production. The cast includes Kim Yoon-seok, Jo In-sung, Heo Jun-ho, Kim So-jin, Jung Man-sik, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim Jae-hwa, and Park Kyung-hye. A representative said, "It is highly likely to be released in late next month."
The opening could be followed by the addition of other Korean films. Candidates mentioned include 'Method: Repetition,' 'Voice,' and 'Sinkhole.' A representative said, "It is unlikely that films with production costs exceeding 20 billion won will enter the summer market additionally," but added, "It will serve as a stepping stone for mid-sized films to be released."
