[Asia Economy, Reporter Park Jongil] Dongdaemun District (District Mayor Yoo Deokyeol) and the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation (CEO Koo Bonho) are holding the "Dongdaemun-gu Alley Story Contest" to develop local cultural content through resident participation.
This contest is being held under the theme "Meeting of Spaces and People: Rediscovering the Alleys of Dongdaemun-gu." Anyone who knows or is interested in stories related to the alleys of Dongdaemun-gu can participate.
Those wishing to participate can write stories, up to five A4 pages, on a variety of topics related to alleys across Dongdaemun-gu-such as personal memories, alleys to introduce to foreigners, unique themed alleys, history, culture, people, or events. Submissions must be sent by mail to the Alley Story 담당자 at the Seonnongdan History and Culture Center’s Cultural Projects Team, or by email (dfacorkr@naver.com) by July 2, along with the application form.
The application form can be downloaded from the notices section of the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation website.
After review, a total of 40 winners will be selected: 1 Grand Prize, 2 Excellence Awards, 3 Merit Awards, 4 Encouragement Awards, and 30 Honorable Mentions. The Grand Prize winner will receive 2 million KRW, and each Excellence Award winner will receive 500,000 KRW.
For more details about the contest, please refer to the notices on the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation website or inquire by phone.
The selected alley stories will be produced as an interview and oral history collection in collaboration with archive experts.
Additionally, an alley map will be created to make the locations of the selected stories easily accessible to everyone, and a local tour program linked to themed tourism courses will be developed.
Yoo Deokyeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, encouraged participation by saying, "Through this contest, we will record and share residents' precious memories tied to the alleys of Dongdaemun-gu, turning them into unique cultural assets for the district. I hope many people with hidden alley stories from every corner of Dongdaemun-gu will show great interest and participate."
