[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] LG Display is practicing ESG management through various methods, including expanding investments in greenhouse gas reduction facilities and increasing the production ratio of eco-friendly products.
LG Display has established a dedicated environmental organization and continuously improved investments in greenhouse gas reduction facilities and energy efficiency. As a result, last year, it achieved a reduction of approximately 39% (3 million tons) in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2014, and plans to continue investing more than 6 billion KRW in greenhouse gas reduction facilities this year.
Additionally, LG Display developed its own eco-friendly performance indicator called the ‘Eco Index,’ which objectively evaluates resource usage, recycling rates of discarded products, and the use of hazardous substances, and has been utilizing it since 2019 to promote eco-friendly product manufacturing.
The OLED TV panels, whose production LG Display has recently expanded, are eco-friendly products that reduce plastic usage by more than 90% compared to existing LCD panels. LG Display standardized the components of OLED TV panels, except for the glass substrates and some plastic parts, to iron materials that are easy to recycle, raising the recycling rate to 92.2%.
LG Display’s OLED TV panels are also recognized as products that consider the health and safety of end consumers by reducing hazardous substances mainly emitted from plastics. They received excellent evaluations in three categories: indoor pollutants and hazardous substance reduction, and recycling rate, and obtained the ‘Eco Product’ certification from SGS, a Swiss inspection and certification organization.
