Name Change Applications, Real Estate Registration and Auctions, Inheritance and Gifts... Expected to Lower Legal Consultation Barriers... Steady Increase in Use of Existing 'Maeul Byeonhosa'... Heartwarming Thank-You Letters Received in May
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is officially launching a free consultation service through village legal officers at 19 community service centers.
This initiative aims to provide consultations in specialized everyday legal areas related to various legal document preparations and non-contentious cases such as real estate self-registration, auctions, and name change applications, which have recently surged in popularity.
The district quickly prepared to ensure more residents can conveniently use the service ahead of Seoul City's 'Village Legal Officer' project, which is being promoted starting this year.
As a result, 24 village legal officers have been assigned, and from June, the village legal officer service will be available at all 19 community service centers in Nowon-gu.
The consultation areas include ▲real estate registration ▲family relations such as name changes and adoptions ▲corporate legal affairs such as company and corporation establishment and commercial registration ▲auctions, public sales, seizures, and collections ▲bankruptcy and rehabilitation ▲inheritance and gifts.
The consultations are free, and residents wishing to use the service can visit the community service center or apply in advance by phone.
Detailed consultation schedules can be checked on the district office website (Open Administration/Legal Consultation).
For further details, residents can contact each community service center for guidance.
The district expects that this village legal officer project will greatly contribute to protecting residents' rights and enhancing accessibility to legal services by providing more extensive, community-based legal services.
Meanwhile, the 'Village Lawyer System,' available at each of the 19 community service centers since 2014, has also received great responses from residents. The number of service uses has steadily increased, reaching an average of 636 cases annually over the past three years.
On the 13th of last month, a heartwarming story was received from a resident surnamed Kim, who expressed gratitude in a letter after receiving much help and comfort from a village lawyer during a legally difficult situation.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope residents will not hesitate to resolve difficulties through expert assistance in their neighborhood, from minor disputes to complex issues. We will continue to strive to lower the barriers to legal services through various legal welfare services.”
