[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Moon Seok-jin, the mayor of Seodaemun-gu, a member city of the Korean Human Rights Cities Council, attended the council’s ‘Donation Ceremony for Supporting Myanmar’s Democratization Movement’ held at the Citizen Hall inside Seoul City Hall on the 8th, condemning the Myanmar military’s human rights abuses and supporting the citizens’ democratization movement.

At the event, which was also attended by representatives of the ‘Myanmar Democracy Network,’ Mayor Moon said, “As a Korean who has experienced the same pain and suffering, I convey a small but hopeful and solidarity-filled heart to the people of Myanmar.”

He also urged, “Let us cooperate together with the UN, the international community, our government, and local governments to restore peace and order in Myanmar,” adding, “I hope that the attention and support from outside Myanmar will become the driving force sustaining the Myanmar citizens’ democratization movement.”

Mayor Moon expressed deep condolences to the Myanmar citizens who sacrificed under the military’s oppression and concluded his remarks by wishing for the success of Myanmar’s democratization.

Meanwhile, the Korean Human Rights Cities Council donated 10 million won to the ‘Myanmar Democracy Network’ on the same day in support of the Myanmar citizens’ democratization movement.
