[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] SK Telecom will officially launch the virtual reality (VR) multiplayer game ‘Crazy World VR’ as an exclusive game for Oculus Quest on the 9th.
According to SK Telecom on the 8th, Crazy World VR is a game jointly invested and developed by SK Telecom and Pixelity Games, with game company Nexon providing intellectual property (IP) of its representative game characters from titles such as ‘KartRider’ and ‘Crazy Arcade’.
With this official release, customers who own VR devices Oculus Quest 1 or 2 can enjoy Crazy World VR, a sports game featuring shooting, archery, tennis, and more, using Nexon’s game characters like Dao and Baechi, competing with gamers worldwide.
The biggest feature of Crazy World VR is that time flows identically in reality and in the game, enabling real-time multiplayer communication and competition among gamers worldwide. The release of Crazy World VR is expected to usher in the full-fledged era of live VR games.
During the beta test conducted over the past year, about 11,000 gamers from major global countries including Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany participated. Based on these results, SK Telecom and Pixelity Games enhanced the game’s completeness by adding new gameplay modes to the official release version.
Crazy World VR can be purchased through the Oculus Quest Store and One Store. The price is 27,000 KRW (including VAT).
To commemorate the launch, SK Telecom and Pixelity Games will offer Crazy World VR for free to customers who purchase Oculus Quest 2 from One Store starting on the 9th. Additionally, customers who purchase Crazy World VR alone can buy it at a discounted price of 9,900 KRW, more than 60% off.
SK Telecom plans to continue its challenge in the VR game market by officially launching another VR game, ‘Friends VR World,’ which is being jointly developed with Kakao VX in the second half of this year.
Jinsoo Jeon, head of SK Telecom’s Metaverse Company, said, “The launch of Crazy World VR is significant as SK Telecom makes a full-scale entry into the global market with VR game content in collaboration with Korea’s competitive game companies. Going forward, we will continue to lead the VR ecosystem in the 5G era by adding content supply to device distribution such as Oculus Quest 2.”
Daewon Lee, CEO of Pixelity Games, stated, “The meaning of VR content is not simply to provide realistic graphics, but to overcome the constraints of time and space through active communication and interaction among people worldwide in virtual spaces. Through ‘Crazy World VR,’ released in cooperation with SK Telecom and Nexon, we will continue our challenge toward the future.”
