[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 7th, the government will discuss summer vacation period quarantine management measures and the progress of vaccination at the special COVID-19 response quarantine inspection meeting presided over by President Moon Jae-in.

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), the government will hold a briefing related to the special COVID-19 response quarantine inspection meeting at 5 p.m. at the Government Seoul Office. This is to announce the results of the special quarantine inspection meeting held at the Blue House, presided over by President Moon. Health and Welfare Minister Kwon Deok-cheol, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Director Jung Eun-kyung, and Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol are expected to attend the briefing.

Son Young-rae, head of the Social Strategy Division of the Central Accident Response Headquarters (CARH) at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, explained at the COVID-19 back briefing that "this meeting is the third special quarantine inspection meeting presided over by the president," adding, "It is not about any particularly important agenda but a place to irregularly check the quarantine situation about once a month and seek improvement measures."

Son also said, "We will conduct a mid-term review of the first half vaccination plan and progress, and additionally check the progress after the Korea-US summit and the status of domestic vaccine development," adding, "Since the vacation period is approaching, quarantine management during this period will also be discussed as an agenda item."

The government has set a goal to complete the first dose vaccination for 36 million people, equivalent to 70% of the population, by September and achieve herd immunity by November. While the detailed blueprint for the third-quarter vaccination plan starting next month has not yet been released, it is also expected that the meeting will review the vaccination plan for July to September.
