Teen Disabled Person Found Dead in Welfare Facility... Bruises and Wounds Found All Over Body

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A teenage person with a disability who was admitted to a welfare facility for the disabled in Hwasun-gun, Jeonnam, has died, and the police have launched an investigation. It has been confirmed that there are no closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) inside the facility.

According to the Hwasun Police Station in Jeonnam on the 7th, at around 3:20 p.m. on the 5th, a report was received that A (18), a first-degree intellectually disabled person, was found collapsed and unresponsive at a welfare facility for the disabled located in Dong-myeon, Hwasun-gun, Jeonnam.

A facility staff member tried to wake A, who was sleeping, but upon noticing weakened consciousness and breathing, called 119. A was transported to the hospital and received treatment but ultimately passed away.

The hospital responsible for A’s treatment reported to the police, saying “abuse is suspected” after seeing injuries on the body. Upon confirmation, bruises and wounds presumed to be caused by external impact were found on A’s face and various parts of the body.

Based on this, the bereaved family has raised suspicions, stating, “Was there any assault or abuse at the facility?”

Regarding this, the facility has reportedly stated, “There was absolutely no assault or abuse.”

The police confirmed that there are no closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) inside the facility and have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.

In particular, the police plan to investigate whether A was abused while living in the disabled facility, which is isolated from the outside world.
