Hyundai Motor Group "Each Company Will Keep Dialogue Channels Open and Engage in Sincere Discussions"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] The meeting requested by the Hyundai Motor Group office and research staff labor union with Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun was canceled.
According to industry sources on the 4th, the Hyundai Motor Group Talent Respect Office and Research Staff Labor Union recently received a response from the company stating that a meeting with Chairman Chung could not be arranged.
The Hyundai Motor Group office workers' union, launched in April mainly by the MZ generation (born between the 1980s and 2000s), sent an official letter requesting a meeting with Chairman Chung as their first action on the 20th of last month.
At that time, the union stated, "In a fierce global competitive environment, the company must struggle to survive at all costs, and workers demanding job security amid fears of changes in production methods can no longer retreat or back down."
However, the company maintains that collective bargaining on wages and working conditions should be conducted at the individual company level. Hyundai Motor Group said, "An executive in charge has held talks with the office and research staff union," and added, "We will keep communication channels open at each company level and engage in sincere dialogue."
