[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Amid the spread of COVID-19, confirmed cases have occurred across the country.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments on the 3rd, from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 578 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded nationwide. This is 3 fewer than the 581 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported, 387 cases (67%) were in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 191 cases (33%) were in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers were as follows: Gyeonggi 195, Seoul 182, Daegu 55, Gyeongnam 27, Gangwon and Jeju 17 each, Chungbuk 15, Busan 14, Daejeon 13, Incheon 10, Ulsan 9, Gyeongbuk 8, Chungnam 7, Gwangju 4, Jeonbuk and Jeonnam 2 each, and Sejong 1.
By midnight, when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases is expected to be around 700. The previous day, 100 cases were added after 6 p.m., bringing the final total to 681.
Recently, with large and small group infections occurring nationwide, daily confirmed cases have fluctuated between 400 and 600. From the 28th of last month to the 3rd, the daily new confirmed cases over the past week were 587 → 533 → 480 → 430 → 459 → 677 → 681. This averages to about 550 cases per day.
Regarding major new group infection cases, 19 additional people tested positive related to a pub in Daegu, increasing the cumulative confirmed cases to 34. Among them, 8 are pub employees, 11 are patrons, and 15 are classified as secondary infections.
