[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it will promote the ‘Bukham-myeon Multonggol Waterfall Tourism Resource Development’ project with a total budget of 3.8 billion KRW.
The project site is the Seongam-ri area in Bukham-myeon, adjacent to the right side of Jangseongho Lake, featuring a beautiful landscape with cool waterfalls and clear valley water flowing through dense cypress forests.
In particular, the Multonggol Waterfall in Myeongchi Village is known among villagers for its stable water volume, with stories saying it has never dried up even during droughts.
To discover and develop the hidden local tourism resources, the county included this project in the 7th local government’s election pledges in 2018, and after establishing the basic plan, conducting detailed design services, and holding resident briefings, construction began at the end of last year.
The project will install water playgrounds utilizing three natural waterfalls in the Seongam-ri area, a deck walking trail (717m), a cypress forest trail (100m), an observatory, and a pavilion with eight sides.
Parking lots and convenience facilities will also be provided at the entrance of the water playground.
Of the total project cost of 3.8 billion KRW, 50%, or 1.9 billion KRW, was secured as national funding (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tourism Resource Development Project), reducing the financial burden.
The project is divided into three phases. The first phase, which began construction at the end of last year, includes the creation of parking lots and restrooms, with completion targeted for October this year.
The second phase, underway since March, focuses on installing two water playgrounds and is progressing smoothly with a goal of completion in December.
The final third phase will encompass the construction of the deck walking trail, a circular trail, the observatory, and the eight-sided pavilion.
Construction is planned to start next year and finish by the end of the year.
County Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “This project is a groundbreaking opportunity to rediscover the hidden value of the region and increase residents’ income. Together with the Jangseongho lakeside trail, which attracts an average of 7,000 visitors on weekends, it is expected to create synergy and greatly contribute to the development of the tourism industry.”
