[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo publicly praised the frontline prosecution investigation team that supplemented the investigation of a case, which was sent by the police with a no-charge opinion, and indicted it.
According to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, on the 3rd, Kim received a report on the US military construction bid-rigging case referred to trial by the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office and highly evaluated it as "an appropriate example presenting the direction the prosecution should take going forward."
He emphasized, "This is an excellent case that uncovered the full details of the crime through thorough supplementary investigations, including scientific investigation, into a simple complaint case sent by the police with a no-charge opinion."
The Fair Trade and Economic Crime Division of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Hyung-joo) indicted seven construction corporations and seven responsible personnel without detention the day before on charges of violating the Framework Act on the Construction Industry.
These companies were investigated for prearranging the winning order and colluding on bid prices in the construction bids ordered by the US military in July 2016.
Although the police investigated this case and sent it to the prosecution with a no-charge opinion, the prosecution conducted supplementary investigations by analyzing seized items and US military materials, confirming the charges again.
