Young Couples Who Registered Marriage After January 1, 2021
Both Spouses Aged 18-49, One Is a First Marriage
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it will support newlyweds with a marriage congratulatory fund of 2 million KRW to encourage 'youth marriage,' a prerequisite for childbirth, in response to population decline due to low birth rates.
The support criteria apply to young couples who registered their marriage after January 1, 2021; both spouses must be between 18 and 49 years old, and at least one must be a first-time bride or groom.
Additionally, as of the marriage registration date, at least one spouse must have continuously resided in Jeollanam-do for one year (6 months in Gwangyang City), and both must be registered residents of Gwangyang City at the time of application.
Applications can be submitted by visiting the local town or township community service center between 6 months and 12 months after the marriage registration date.
Besides this, the city also operates the 'Newlywed Housing Support Project' and the 'Youth Housing Loan Interest Support Project' for newlywed couples.
Na Seung-do, Director of the Integrated Health Division, said, "As this project aims to overcome low birth rates and respond to population decline, we hope it will help foster a marriage-friendly atmosphere among young people and support the stable settlement of newlyweds in the region," adding, "We hope couples take their happy first steps together in Gwangyang, a city ideal for raising children."
