Gwangju Bank Donates 10 Million KRW Scholarship to Namgu Scholarship Foundation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jongwook) announced on the 3rd that it has donated 10 million KRW in scholarships to the Nam-gu Scholarship Foundation in Gwangju Metropolitan City.

The donation ceremony was attended by Lee Chunwoo, Vice President of Gwangju Bank, Kim Byeongnae, Mayor of Nam-gu, and Lee Seongdo, Secretary General of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea, among others.

The scholarship funds will be used to support underprivileged students in the local community.

Vice President Lee said, “As the representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we will take the lead in various social contribution activities to nurture local talent so that children who will lead the future of our region can grow their dreams without being discouraged by difficult circumstances. We will continue to listen carefully to the diverse issues of the local community and the voices of residents, sincerely realizing values beyond profit such as ‘coexistence with the region and companionship with the residents.’”

Meanwhile, Gwangju Bank is conducting various social contribution activities to discover and foster local talent as a practical measure to pursue values beyond profit, which is the management philosophy of President Song Jongwook.

They continuously select ‘Hope Blossoming Study Rooms (currently 63 branches)’ and ‘Hope Blossoming Dream Trees (currently 4 branches)’ to support children in difficult environments to nurture their dreams. Through the Gwangju Bank Scholarship Foundation, established in 1981, scholarships have been awarded to local students. Up to this year, scholarships worth a total of approximately 3.3 billion KRW have been granted to over 4,000 local scholarship recipients.

Additionally, more than 80% of total hires are allocated to candidates from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions. They also select university student ambassadors to provide workplace experience opportunities, leading efforts to hire local talent and support local youth in various ways.
