[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 3rd that it has selected Korea University (Sejong Campus) and Sejong University as specialized universities for information security to cultivate professional personnel supporting the Digital New Deal.
As part of the Digital New Deal, the Ministry of Science and ICT is promoting the training of 30,000 information security professionals by 2025. To this end, the number of specialized universities for information security, currently three (Chungbuk National University, Korea University, Sejong University), will be expanded to eight by 2025.
Specialized universities for information security receive operational budget support for up to six years and play a role in cultivating field-customized information security practitioners through specialized curricula tailored to major information security job roles.*
The universities selected this year plan to complete preparations for opening, including developing specialized curricula by job field and establishing classrooms, in cooperation with leading domestic and international companies and institutions by the end of the year, and officially operate from next year.
Hong Jin-bae, Director of the Information Security Network Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “The Digital New Deal is a plan to promote digital innovation across the economy by integrating new technologies into various industries, and the role of information security talent is crucial for safe digital innovation. We will expand support for training security personnel, such as specialized universities for information security and graduate schools of convergence security, to respond to the rapidly increasing demand for new security personnel.”
