[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The LPGA Tour's Canadian Pacific Women's Open has been canceled for the second consecutive year.
The Canadian Golf Association announced on the 3rd (Korean time), "Due to border movement restrictions caused by COVID-19 and various transportation issues resulting from it, this year's LPGA Tour Canadian Pacific Women's Open (total prize money $2.35 million) will be canceled." The tournament was scheduled to be held for four days starting August 26 at the Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club (par 72, 6,709 yards) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This event was also canceled in 2020 due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
Korea has seen champions in this tournament, which was established in 2001, with Lee Mina (40) winning first in 2005. Following her, So-yeon Ryu (31, Mediheal) won in 2014, Sung-hyun Park (28) in 2017, and world number one Jin-young Ko (26) in 2019, collecting the winner's trophy. Notably, Jin-young Ko set a course record with an 8-under-par 64 on the final day. Prior to this, the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open, scheduled for June, was also canceled due to COVID-19. This tournament has also been canceled for two consecutive years.
