Seongdong-gu Launches Inspection of Illegal Cameras Taking Hidden Footage in Schools Seongdong-gu Women-Friendly Supporters Inspecting Illegal Camera Installations with Radio Wave Detectors

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is conducting inspections for the presence of illegal hidden cameras in 36 schools within the district from the 13th of last month until the end of this month.

Amid rising digital sex crimes and increasing public anxiety about using public spaces, the district has decided to actively check for illegal hidden cameras installed in restrooms to eradicate and prevent digital sex crimes.

In particular, the inspection target has been expanded to schools where children spend their time. Twenty-nine female supporters from Seongdong-gu will sequentially visit the restrooms of 36 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area that requested inspections to check for illegal hidden cameras.

The inspections are conducted by female supporters working in pairs, using radio wave detectors and lens detectors to find illegal cameras, thoroughly checking electrical devices such as outlets, screws, switches, and even holes in restroom walls.

If suspicious signs are found, they immediately report to the police. These inspections will be conducted regularly in the first and second halves of the year to alleviate the anxiety of students and staff using the restrooms.

Last year, the district, in cooperation with Seongdong-gu female supporters and the Seongdong Police Station, inspected a total of 38 facilities and 577 locations, including privately open restrooms and public restrooms in the area, checking for illegal camera installations and emergency bell operations.

This year as well, in collaboration with the Seongdong Police Station, a campaign to eradicate illegal filming in public restrooms will be conducted, and continuous efforts will be made to create a safe city.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “This inspection was initiated to eradicate and prevent digital sex crimes such as illegal filming in schools,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure safety so that everyone can use public facilities, including schools, with peace of mind.”
