[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Park Joon-yi] President Moon Jae-in presents the appointment letter to Kim Oh-soo, the new Prosecutor General.

The Blue House announced that President Moon will hold the appointment ceremony for the new Prosecutor General Kim on the afternoon of the 1st.

With this, the vacancy in the Prosecutor General position, which had been empty for about three months since former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl resigned, will be filled. Kim's term as Prosecutor General will last for two years, starting from this day.

Earlier, the Democratic Party of Korea adopted the personnel hearing report for the new Prosecutor General Kim on the 31st of last month despite opposition from the opposition parties, and President Moon approved the appointment around 5 p.m. on the same day. This appointment of a minister-level official amid opposition from the opposition parties is the 33rd such case during this administration.

At the ceremony, President Moon will present the appointment letter to the new Prosecutor General Kim and then hold a private conversation. Attention is focused on what message President Moon will deliver regarding prosecutorial reform to the new Prosecutor General at this meeting.

The opposition parties also criticized the "forced appointment" on this day. Kim Ki-hyun, acting leader of the People Power Party and floor leader, said at the floor strategy meeting, "This is the 33rd minister without the consent of the opposition," and pointed out, "Although President Moon emphasized cooperation at the meeting with the leaders of the five parties, it was just words; the arrogance and self-righteousness have not changed."
