Heatwave Impact Forecast Service for Desired Areas in the 'Nalssiallimi' App
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) will start providing heatwave impact forecasts and ultraviolet (UV) index information through the 'Weather Alimi' mobile application from the 31st to mark the summer season.
The heatwave impact forecast is provided a day in advance when the 'general public risk level in the health sector is at or above the interest stage,' and the UV index is provided when it is expected to be 'very high' or 'dangerous.' The risk levels are classified into four stages (interest, caution, warning, danger), and detailed response guidelines for each heatwave risk level are also provided.
Users can receive alert notifications when impact forecasts or daily weather indices for their current location or selected areas of interest are announced. Previously, this service was only available via text messages to disaster prevention officers and vulnerable group managers, but now anyone can check the information by installing the Weather Alimi app. In the app’s alert settings menu, under 'Receive Impact Forecast' and 'Receive Daily Weather Index,' users can specify their desired neighborhood.
The KMA plans to additionally provide 'cold wave impact forecasts' and 'pipe freezing possibility indices' during the winter season, tailored to seasonal characteristics.
Park Kwangseok, Administrator of the KMA, stated, "We will continue to do our best to promptly deliver various weather information through the Weather Alimi app to minimize public inconvenience and provide weather services that the public can directly experience."
