Songpa-gu Increases Death Consolation Money for 6.25 and Vietnam War Veterans from 300,000 to 500,000 Won

Lifting Residency Restrictions and Increasing Veterans' Allowances... June 4th '2021 June Month of Patriots and Veterans Commemoration Event' to be Held

Songpa-gu Increases Death Consolation Money for 6.25 and Vietnam War Veterans from 300,000 to 500,000 Won 2020 Veterans Affairs Event

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is strengthening its veterans' policies in June, the 'Month of National Defense and Veterans,' to honor the dedication of national merit recipients and their families.

The district plans to increase veterans' allowances and death condolence payments for war veterans, and will hold the 'Month of National Defense and Veterans Commemoration Event' on June 4.

It is expected that providing appropriate honors to national merit recipients who have devoted their lives with sacrifice and dedication on the front lines of national security for the country and nation will boost their pride.

First, Songpa-gu is currently revising related ordinances, and starting from January next year, the veterans' allowance paid to national merit recipients residing in the district will be raised from 30,000 KRW to 50,000 KRW, and the death condolence payment for Korean War and Vietnam War veterans will be increased from 300,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW.

Additionally, the existing requirement of paying veterans' allowances only to those who have resided in Songpa-gu for more than one year will be removed, allowing payments to begin from the month of moving in.

Furthermore, on June 4 at 3 PM, the '2021 Month of National Defense and Veterans Commemoration Event' will be held at the Songpa-gu Office auditorium. The event is jointly organized by Songpa-gu and the Songpa-gu Veterans Hall Management Council.

At this event, gratitude and respect will be expressed to elderly veterans for their sacrifice and dedication to the country. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the event will be held on a small scale with about 50 elderly members from nine veterans' organizations, and 36 exemplary national merit recipients will be awarded commendations from the Songpa-gu mayor.

In particular, a special lecture will be given by General Seo Kyung-seok, who has served as a soldier, diplomat, and university professor, and is currently active as a Songpa Saem biographical book figure. Under the theme 'Combat and Inclusion,' he will share his experiences and vivid stories from his participation in the Vietnam War, providing a time to reflect on the historical significance of veterans and the noble spirit of sacrifice of national heroes.

For national merit recipients who cannot attend the commemoration event, small-scale events are planned by each organization, and health kits containing quarantine supplies, daily necessities, and health supplements will be distributed to about 1,000 elderly veterans.

Mayor Park Seong-su stated, “Since the launch of the 7th local government, we have gradually increased veterans' allowances,” adding, “We will do our best to remember the sacrifice and dedication of national merit recipients and to spread a culture of honor and respect.”
