[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] "I hope COMEUP 2021 can serve as a bright lighthouse so that innovative ventures and startups can keep moving forward without giving up amid the vast ocean of challenges."
On the 26th, Kwon Chilseung, Minister of SMEs and Startups, stated this at the 'COMEUP 2021 Organizing Committee Launch Ceremony' held at Dreamplus in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
On this day, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it held a meeting to pledge full preparation and successful hosting of the upcoming COMEUP event scheduled for November.
'COMEUP' is a global communication and exchange event for innovative ventures and startups, aimed at promoting Korea's startup ecosystem worldwide and creating opportunities for K-startups to expand overseas. It began under the brand name 'COMEUP' in 2019 and is rooted in Venture Korea, first held in 1997.
To ensure the successful hosting of the third COMEUP 2021, the Ministry formed an organizing committee centered on private experts from four sectors that make up the domestic startup ecosystem: startups, investors, large corporations, and media.
The COMEUP 2021 Organizing Committee, composed of 21 members, appointed An Seongwoo, CEO of Zigbang, and Cha Jeonghoon, Director of the Startup Venture Innovation Office at the Ministry, as co-chairs representing the private sector and government, respectively. Additionally, 19 private experts were appointed as organizing committee members to actively participate in three subcommittees.
Appointed as the private organizing committee chair, CEO An announced the overall direction for the COMEUP 2021 event. This was followed by detailed plans presented by each of the three subcommittees.

An Seongwoo, CEO of Zigbang, Appointed as Private Organizing Committee Chair
An Seongwoo, appointed as the private organizing committee chair for COMEUP, founded 'Channel Breeze' in 2010 and participated in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 'Youth Startup Academy' program in 2011. He later launched Korea's first real estate information platform service, 'Zigbang,' in 2012, achieving great success.
At the event, former COMEUP chairs Kim Bongjin, CEO of Woowa Brothers (1st generation), and Kim Seula, CEO of Kurly (2nd generation), delivered messages of support and encouragement via video, further energizing the launch ceremony atmosphere.
COMEUP 2021, themed 'Meet the Future - Transformation,' plans to provide a meeting ground where startups aspiring to become unicorns can review the rapidly changing post-COVID era and prepare for the future.
Moreover, the event will strengthen networking through business matching and focus on collaboration programs with innovative startups and global companies worldwide, creating opportunities for Korean startups to grow on the global stage.
Minister Kwon Chilseung said in his congratulatory speech at the launch ceremony, "Now in its third year, COMEUP is expected to be a stage where the capabilities of innovative ventures and startups, the main actors of the future transformation after COVID-19, can be confirmed," adding, "COMEUP must serve as the brightest lighthouse so that startups boldly challenging entrepreneurship can keep moving forward without giving up amid the vast ocean of challenges."
Organizing Committee Chair An Seongwoo stated, "COMEUP has established itself as Korea's representative innovative startup event through successful hosting over the past two years," and added, "This year's COMEUP will discover the next-generation unicorns leading the post-COVID era domestically and internationally and will leap forward as an event that drives innovation in the global ecosystem."
Meanwhile, COMEUP 2021 will be held from November 17 to 19 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul.
