[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is accelerating its efforts to soar as a ‘Cultural City Seongbuk’.
As the first step, on the 20th, it held the ‘Governance Forum for Cultural City Seongbuk’ with residents and artists. By live streaming on YouTube, various members beyond residents and local artists shared a vision for a sustainable urban community.
At the forum, Seongbuk-gu, Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, the cultural arts network (Gongyuseongbuk Roundtable), Seongbuk Art Association, and social economy organizations, which have joined hands to form a local cultural ecosystem through culture and arts, participated together.
At this event, they diagnosed the current status of Seongbuk’s urban resources and cultural arts ecosystem, examined the current cultural foundation and environment of Seongbuk, and discussed the direction that Cultural City Seongbuk should take.
On the 21st, the ‘Cultural City Seongbuk Expert Invitation Forum’ was held. Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, along with key department heads of the district office and the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, attended the cultural city administrative council, where Cha Jae-geun, Director of the Regional Culture Promotion Institute, gave a special lecture on the theme ‘Local Autonomy and Cultural City: The Value of Regional Development through Cultural Cities.’
Seongbuk-gu has formed a cultural city administrative council centered on practical departments to share the value of a cultural city, establish an organic cooperation system between departments, and consolidate administrative capabilities overall.
Forum participants evaluated that through this special lecture, they were able to deepen their understanding of the overall cultural city projects, and it became an opportunity for the district’s urban administration to transition into policies and structures for a cultural city.
On June 1, a special lecture by Kim Young-hyun, former Director of the Regional Culture Promotion Institute, is scheduled under the theme ‘Cultural City and Governance.’ It will discuss what is necessary for urban administration through cultural cities to transition into governance.
Also, on June 4, through the second governance forum, the promotion direction and plans of Cultural City Seongbuk will be shared with the local community and residents.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, emphasized, “Seongbuk is a region with abundant resources and the power of governance to realize a cultural city more than any other city,” adding, “Through this cultural city creation, we will concentrate all of Seongbuk’s capabilities to grow into a sustainable city.”
