[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized issues concerning the Indo-Pacific region during her meeting with President Moon Jae-in. It is interpreted that the U.S. presented the necessity of checking China to the Korean side ahead of the South Korea-U.S. summit.

According to the White House press corps on the 21st (local time), President Moon and Vice President Harris met at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington D.C.

According to foreign media, after Vice President Harris spoke, President Moon said, "I congratulate the Biden administration on achieving the world's most successful vaccination campaign and the fastest economic recovery, leading to a better rebuilding."

'Better rebuilding' is a slogan referring to the economic reconstruction policy advocated by President Biden since last year's presidential election.

Vice President Harris, who spoke before President Moon, said, "We share democratic and economic values. Our alliance is very important for peace, security, and prosperity in Northeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific, and worldwide."

Vice President Harris continued, "President Joe Biden and I are confident that we can promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region anchored in international norms and order that are not constrained by coercion."

Vice President Harris used the term Indo-Pacific twice in succession.

Vice President Harris stated, "Besides the challenges present on the Korean Peninsula, we will discuss a wide range of issues including our strong partnership."

Vice President Harris also expressed familiarity by mentioning that one of the largest Korean communities in the U.S. is in Los Angeles, California, where she herself lives.

After their remarks, President Moon and Vice President Harris had a cordial conversation in Vice President Harris's office.

Following Vice President Harris, President Moon is scheduled to hold the South Korea-U.S. summit with President Joe Biden later that afternoon.
