[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) held an opening ceremony for a fixed-type Memory Cafe within the Geumcheon-gu Dementia Safety Center on the 20th.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Yu Seong-hoon, representatives from Handok, Seoul city officials, and local residents, who participated in progress reports, tape cutting, and Memory Cafe experiences.

The "Memory Cafe" is a cafe where elderly individuals diagnosed with mild dementia or mild cognitive impairment participate as baristas, symbolizing various ways to preserve memories.

Previously operated as a mobile cafe, a fixed cafe was established in the lobby of the Geumcheon-gu Dementia Safety Center to continuously improve the cognitive abilities of the elderly, and full-scale operations began in May.

The operating hours are every Tuesday from 9 AM to 12 PM and Thursday from 1 PM to 4 PM.

Visitors to the Dementia Safety Center, including those undergoing examinations, consultations, and program participants, can receive free coupons to order coffee and tea.

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, "The Memory Cafe was planned to convey the message that even those with dementia can play a role as members of society, which holds great significance for improving dementia awareness," adding, "I hope residents with mild dementia and mild cognitive impairment live hopeful lives, engaging in economic activities as part of their daily lives, and interacting with family and neighbors."
